In 2005, I founded Lighthouse Counseling Services LLC to serve the psychotherapeutic needs of individuals, couples and families in the northern Illinois area. I wanted to create a safe place for people to address and resolve the issues that hindered their ability to live life abundantly. I have specialized in working with couples struggling with trust and communications difficulties arising from issues that include infidelity, parenting, finances, intimacy, addiction, work/family balance, depression and anxiety. I also work with individuals suffering from a variety of issues which impede personal and relational growth and happiness. Lastly, I work with families, mostly families with adolescents, to facilitate communication, understanding and functionality.
Relationships are hard work. Misunderstanding, miscommunication and disagreements are a part of normal, healthy relationships. What we do with misunderstandings, miscommunications and disagreements define the quality of the relationship. I help my clients discover and/or create the communication patterns necessary to navigate relationship struggles.
Prior to establishing Lighthouse Counseling, I was a marriage and family therapist with Heritage Professional Associates Ltd., Hinsdale IL from 1995 until 2005.
I completed a Masters degree in marriage and family therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA in 1992. I then completed a Doctorate in marriage and family therapy at Purdue University in 1998. In 2014, I completed 100 hours of training in clinical hypnosis which I incorporate into my work especially with respect to depression, anxiety and pain management. I am a Clincal Fellow with The American Assocation for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Illinois Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I am also a Clinical Member of The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Illinois.
Prior to my career in marriage and family therapy, I graduated from Northwestern University's J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management with an M.B.A. Following graduation in 1979, I joined Bank of America NT & SA in Chicago, IL. During my 11 year corporate career, I served the bank domestically (Chicago, IL) and internationally (Japan and Malaysia) as both a line officer and manager. My last title was Vice President and Senior Credit Officer.
I believe that I bring together the heart and insight of a family counselor and the skills and knowledge of a corporate manager. The blending of these two diverse areas brings a unique perspective to my counseling.
I am married with four children and four grandchildren and reside in the western suburbs of Chicago, IL.
